KILIMANJARO CLIMB AND SAFARI

I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT MY DEAREST FRIENDS OF 30+ YEARS DECIDED TO TACKLE THE CLIMB TO THE SUMMIT OF MOUNT KILIMANJARO. THE FOLLOWING IS A COPY OF AN EMAIL HIS WIFE AUDRY SENT ME LAST NIGHT- (P.S.) HE WENT WITH 2 OTHER FRIENDS OF MINE, STEVE AND GARY)

Hi, it's Audrey. I returned home to Florida late this evening (Tuesday night) and it is now 1:00 AM and I just received a phone call from Ed. He doesn't have service but Steve Feller was kind enough to let him use his phone. He sounds wonderful. As you know, he reached the Summit on Monday evening. It hasn't been easy getting all the information from him but the call I just received did give me some info. He never doubted for 1 minute that he wouldn't reach the Summit. It was quite an ordeal he said and the hardest thing he has ever done but he did it. They left for the Summit at Midnight so they could reach the top at Sunrise, 8 hours later. They returned yesterday (Monday) to the hotel where the climb began, took their 1st shower in a week. It is now 8:00 AM on Wednesday (8 hours ahead of us) and they are getting ready to fly to where they begin their Safari. There are so many questions that I have no time to ask so we'll ALL just have to wait to hear everything. I did ask him if he had any altitude sickness and the interesting answer was everyone but Eddie had it. Some worse than others but he had absolutely nothing. Other than some blisters on his feet, he says he feels like a million dollars--------sounds like he's one tired puppy but he did it!!!! Anyway, just wanted to pass whatever info I had on to you all and I appreciated returning home to the many phone calls that you all left me asking for news. Ed returns home on Sunday. Aud

I sent you both an e-mail a few minutes ago, along with a bunch of other people, but wanted to let you both know that Gary didn't make it to the Summit. Apparently around 16,000 feet he felt he couldn't go on and it had to do with not having the proper clothes. It was extremely cold and Ed said Gary was just too cold but he also felt that Gary just wasn't able to continue strength wise also. He said he was terribly disappointed but has gotten over it and is looking forward to the Safari. Aud
